How long do box braids or twist really last?

How long do box braids last ? this might seem like a silly question, but not everyone was raised wearing hair extensions and inquiring minds would like to know. Box braids or twist can last up to 6 months depending on your hair type.

I usually don't recommend keeping a protective style in any longer than 12 weeks. But i have known clients and comrades to go longer. The reason I recommend a 3- 4 month max is to avoid dreading and breakage however with proper care for box braids or twist they can last long periods of time.

It really depends on the person and their hair type and texture. Everyone is different. I recommend you pay attention to the signs that it's time to take out your braids or twist.

Don't be scared of a little growth, we encourage growth around here and if a style is making your hair grow don't rush to take it out by all means let it grow.

Just don't leave it in so long it becomes permanent or even worse damaging.
